About Us

The Bella Rose Arts Centre (formerly TheatreHalifax) is an initiative of the Bella Rose Arts Centre Society (formerly the Halifax West Theatre Association), a registered non-profit organization with a voluntary Board of Directors.

As a presenter of the arts, patrons will enjoy a wide variety of programming from music, dance and live theatre. You can expect to hear jazz, classical, celtic, pop including rock and roll or watch modern dance, step dancing, tap and ballet. Depending upon the production, there is something for the very young theatre goer or the more mature audience.

We primarily rent our venue to house many different types of events from concerts, theatrical performances, dance shows, conventions, to public speaking engagements.

Our venue has housed a wide variety of events in the past and is flexible enough to acomodate even the most demanding of events.

The Bella Rose in partnership with the Halifax Regional School Board operates under a shared-space concept. Through the Centre’s Education and Outeach Program, the venue is made available to drama and music educators from the local Family of Schools.

Through the Brighter Futures Campaign, monies raised saw the completion of the interior of the theatre. Fundraising continues to professionally equip the centre and to complete the necessary enhancements required to offer the patron a truly wonderful experience.

Who is Bella Rose? In recognition of a Distinguished Nova Scotian and in loving memory of their mother, siblings Jack, Judy, Colin, Ann, Richard, Mickey and Michelle have named the venue after their mother, Mrs. Bella MacDonald. She was an extraordinary lady, well-ahead of her time – a visionary, a mentor and a professional who raised seven children to be kind and generous. Taught at the hands of their mother, the siblings all learned that no matter the profession, success comes through focus and hard work. Bella MacDonald taught her children well by instilling in each of them the value and importance of being generous to community.

Bella Rose is the granddaughter of Bella MacDonald and daughter of Mickey MacDonald, an astute businessman, who is also a member of our National Advisory Team for the Brighter Futures Campaign.
